How to Discover Your Sense of Style

When a woman walks into a room and owns the room, it's not by accident. There's typically a mix of flair, confidence, and style that makes her captivating. While some components might come naturally, there's still intentionality behind what makes a woman stand out in a crowd. It's not uncommon for a woman to feel like she owns the room because she has a strong sense of style. You can cultivate a strong sense of style as well. Here are some times to help find your sense of style!

1. Use the Bookmarking Feature

If you're on any social media platform like TikTok, Instagram, or Pinterest, you have the ability to save and bookmark photos and videos that you'd like to reference in the future. Pinterest is an excellent platform for this endeavor because it's built to encourage people to save their visuals to various boards. As you scroll through these apps, take note of the visuals that catch your eye the most. Take note of the similarities within the pictures. You might realize that you love button-down shirts or stunning A-line skirts a lot. Use those visuals as a guide to help you purchase items that you'll want to wear because you actually like them.

2. Know Your Body Type

Your body type truly matters because it allows you to wear items that visually enhance what you're already working with. When you know your body type, you can look for clothing that'll provide a sense of symmetry. While overalls might be classic for certain body types, they do nothing for other body types. Do your own research in order to discover your body type, and consider it when you're discovering your sense of style.

3. Consider What You Reach For

Once you've come home from the gym, consider what you tend to reach for. If you tend to reach for a pair of comfy pants or a simple house dress, use this as your foundation. Instead of reaching for sweatpants, elevate the look a bit by replacing those sweatpants with a comfortable pair of linen pants. If you want a simple house dress, don't reach for a Mumu. Instead, look for a stylish linen dress that's flowy and comfortable. Linen clothing for women will always remain stylish and classic.

4. Try On Various Items

When you visit the local clothing stores, try on clothing that goes outside of your comfort zone. Pick up options you wouldn't normally think to try on. This is wise to do because you'll get a better understanding of what you can get away with rocking. Oftentimes, women underestimate their ability to wear a certain style well. They assume that they either "need more hips" or "need to be younger" in order to pull off certain styles. The only way you'll truly know what works for you is if you try it. When you try something and it works, go ahead and buy it. Once you've purchased the items, use them as the foundational building blocks for the direction you'd like your sense of style to go in.

5. Pay Attention to Colors

The concept of color theory is deeply rooted in science. There's a reason why certain skin tones pop when they're matched with certain colors. Consider your skin tone and the type of colors that seem to make your skin come alive. It's also wise to take a closer look at your natural hair color. While there's nothing wrong with an occasional color change or some highlights, most women tend to look their best when they focus on enhancing their natural hair color. When you pick out jewelry, take note of the types of stones that look great against your skin. It's also important to apply the same intention to your makeup and nail colors as well. There's nothing wrong with going outside of the box for some fun with color. However, it's also wise to know which colors really enhance who you naturally are in order to establish your go-to colors in your style portfolio.


Know that this process doesn't magically happen within a week. In fact, one of the worst things you can do is try to purchase a ton of items within the time frame of a week. This process takes time, patience, and thoughtfulness. It requires experimentation and creativity. As you gradually learn what works for your comfort, body, and needs, you'll eventually build up your own sense of undeniable style.
